The Manitoba Press Council ceased operation on Jan. 1, 2012, following a decision by its newspaper members to cease funding the organization.

The press council was created by the publishers of the Winnipeg Free Press, the Brandon Sun, The Portage Graphic and the Manitoba Community Newspapers Association 27 years ago. It was structured as an at-arms-length board, that included an equal number of industry and non-industry members, which would adjudicate complaints of newspaper ethics from the public at no cost to them.

We would like to thank our member newspapers for their support and recognize the service of all board members through the years who showed respect and consideration for all points of view.
